Puppy Preschool
Foundational training for your new puppy with a Certified Basic Obedience Trainer and socialization with other balanced puppies and adult dogs while boarding at MPCP. Minimum stay is one week; two weeks recommended for optimal results. Discount of 20% applied to week 2.
All training begins with a 1.5 hr. In-Depth Training Consultation ($

Program cost is $250/day with half of the consultation fee applied to the cost of the first Board & Train week. The 2nd week is discounted by 20% for a rate of $200/day. Recommended for busy professionals or families with limited time to spend with a Trainer yet requiring optimal results and a positive training start for their new, furry family member.
PUPPY PRESCHOOL: This program covers crate and/or potty training, bite inhibition, and puppy socialization. Puppies as young as 8 weeks accepted. Your pup's Board & Train program ends with a mandatory (and complimentary) Training Debrief at MPCP in Novato, CA.
Following Puppy Preschool and at the age of at least 4 months, the next step is our Good Manners program.

BACK TO SCHOOL, CUTIE!: This program is ideal for dogs and older puppies that need a review or fine-tuning on specific commands, having already gone through training elsewhere or had some training at home. Before Beginning Board & Train With Us...
Please read and review prior to requesting Board & Train:
VACCINATIONS: All puppies and dogs in Board & Train, daycare, and boarding at MPCP are vaccinated, and your puppy or dog must be too. We ask that you email your dog's proof of vaccination to us ahead of your new client meeting to info@marinpetcarepros.com. Puppies under 4 months of age need proof of participation in the customary vaccination series as recommended by their vet. In addition, all dogs must be vaccinated against Bordetella (kennel cough) prior to their stay at MPCP.
FLEA PREVENTION: All puppies and dogs must be on a flea preventative before beginning their Board & Train at MPCP.
NO AGGRESSIVE PUPPIES OR DOGS: Trainer does not offer training to correct aggression, biting of humans or other animals, resource guarding or separation anxiety. Please ask for a referral to another trainer if you are struggling with these issues in your dog or puppy.
NO INTACT MALES OR FEMALES IN HEAT: MPCP does not take in puppies and dogs over 7 months of age that are not neutered or spayed. In addition, we cannot board female dogs that are in season.
PUPPY AGE FOR TRAINING: Puppies have come to MPCP for training as young as 8 weeks of age (for crate/house training, chewing/mouthing/bite inhibition training, and socialization). Formal basic obedience does not usually begin, however, until the age of 4 months when a puppy is more ready to learn commands. Dogs and puppies participating in our Board & Train program will have the benefit of playing and socializing with other well-balanced dogs and puppies in our trainer-supervised environment.
TRAINING DISCLAIMER: Results are not guaranteed and may vary based on the teachability, readiness, and temperament of your dog or puppy. Trainer reserves the right to change the Training Plan to suit the dog’s or puppy’s ability and development or terminate the training during the course of their Board & Train at MPCP. In either situation, client will be consulted and advised.

About the Trainer and Training Methodology
Basia [pronounced “Basha”] Tolscik, M.A. is the owner of Marin Pet Care Pros and began training dogs as a young girl living in Pennsylvania. After a career in Education Administration and Human Resources, she returned to her childhood passion by becoming a Certified Basic Obedience Trainer in 2006 and opening up her own business. She holds two Masters degrees: one in Organization and Leadership and the other in Teaching.
Basia believes in training using positive reinforcement and redirection i.e. praising the wanted behavior and redirecting or effectively and humanely correcting the unwanted behavior. No choke, prong or shock collars are used in her training method. Training is conducted with and without the use of treats. Since every dog and puppy is unique, Basia adapts her positive training approach to each dog or puppy in her care during their Board & Train program at MPCP.
Basia is a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP).
About the Board & Train Environment
Our Board & Train programs are held at the Trainer’s dog-centered, smoke-free, and secure home in Novato, CA where puppies and dogs have lots of room to roam and play both indoors and out, rain or shine. Each Board & Train stay includes daily supervised socialization with other balanced dogs and puppies between training sessions throughout the day.
All pups sleep indoors and are part of the family. They are never crated at MPCP unless that is part of their training or what they are used to at home.
For your peace of mind, we are licensed, bonded, insured and Pet First Aid/CPR certified, recertifying biennially. [Most recent recertification completed March 2023.]
